TESDA activity benefits trainees, jobseekers

More than 680 training applicants and jobseekers participated in the first day of the simultaneous National Technical Vocational Education (TVET) Enrollment Day and Jobs Bridging spearheaded by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Benguet Provincial Office at the Wangal Sports Complex, Buyagan, La Trinidad.

According to TESDA Benguet Provincial Director Manuel B. Wong, the two-day activity was conceptualized by the TESDA Director General Guiling A. Mamondiong purposely to bring TESDA and its services to the people, adding that it was a convergence effort of the different government line agencies like Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Trade and Industry, and Public Employment Services Office.

“This activity is an opportunity for TESDA to serve the people in the grassroots, for jobseekers to be employed, for schools to serve their trainees, and we are happy for the continuous support of the different partner agencies and industries, local government units, training institutions and the media,” said Efren F. Piñol, TESDA-CAR Regional Director.

This sentiment was shared by Tetsuo Caguay, a welding graduate of the Regional Training Center-Baguio who is applying for scholarship in Heavy Equipment Operation in hopes of getting employed abroad.

“This activity is a good opportunity to get better employment, as well as to avail of other trainings that would make us well-rounded and improve our chances of getting hired in the construction sector,” said Caguay, adding that he was currently employed but took a day off to participate in the activity.

Similarly, Atty. Noel Ngolob, Benguet Provincial Administrator, said during the opening ceremonies that the activity is certain to yield results in the form of services and employment, particularly for skilled manpower.

“We are penetrating the global market and we are thankful for TESDA’s efforts in the certification of skilled workers, which will help Filipino workers get better employment and benefits abroad,” said Atty. Ngolob.

According to Atty. Miller Quentin, Jr., Municipal Administrator for La Trinidad, the activity was an opportunity for everyone to work together.

“We are partners in providing for job security and opportunities, and we are truly happy for the services extended today for enrolment and employment,” he said.

Around 24 training institutions and private companies from Baguio and Benguet participated in the activity, which will be continued at the University of Baguio Gymnasium on February 28, 2018.
