Urban Poor Solidarity Week 2020 December 7, 2020
The Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) leads the culminating celebration of the Urban Poor Solidarity Week 2020 via virtual convention on this day, 7 December 2020.
By virtue of Executive Order No. 82, series of 1986, the PCUP acts as the government’s direct link to the urban poor in formulating programs and policies to address their needs. Furthermore, Section No. 2 of Executive Order No. 69 mandates the PCUP to undertake social preparation activities relevant to asset reform, human development and basic social services, employment and livelihood, and other programs of the government for the urban poor.
The PCUP spearheads the observance of the Urban Poor Solidarity Week (UPSW) pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 367 that declares December 2-8 as UPSW. This year’s theme is ‘PCUP at MARALITANG TAGALUNGSOD: Magkaagapay sa Pagtugon sa Hamon ng Bagong Panahon’.
The weeklong celebration of the UPSW seeks to promote greater understanding on issues concerning urbanization, urban poverty, squatting and other related concerns. It also aims to foster unity, dialogue and cooperation among government agencies, non-government agencies and the urban poor communities in specific initiatives for the alleviation of urban poverty.
