TESDA empowers people behind bars thru skills training

LUNA, Apayao – To guide and facilitate a smooth future reintegration into society, the Technical Education and Skills Development (TESDA) – Apayao and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) conducted skills training in Hollow Blocks Making for 39 Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) on March 19 - 23, 2018.

“The training intervention somehow diverted their feelings of being helpless and unworthy as they find themselves unable to do something for their family,” said JO3 Neljane P. Sao, BJMP training coordinator.

Sao added that the activity encouraged the inmates to become entrepreneurs while inside the prison as they are expected to utilize their gained skills appropriately to become capable of providing for their families’ needs even if they are in jail.

“We are optimistic that the conducted training will eventually transform the detainees not to become a repeat offender when they get out from the prison,” said Sao.

The TESDA-Apayao will facilitate similar appropriate skills trainings in the future to expand their lifelong skills. #
