TESDA helps dialysis patients with skills training

LUNA, Apayao – To provide dialysis patients an opportunity to acquire technical skills and develop their entrepreneurial skills, the Technical Education and Skills Development (TESDA) – Apayao, in partnership with FarNorth Luzon General Hospital and Training Center (FNLGHTC), provided a three-day skills training in Ribbon Folding on May 9-11, 2018.

Nineteen dialysis patients and their guardians participated in the training to maximize their time and make it fruitful while waiting for their dialysis treatment.

“We usually do not have productive days because of our illness and treatment schedules, that is why we are very fortunate and happy that we are given a chance to acquire such skills, as it will really make a difference to our daily routine and somehow uplift our body and spirit,” said one patient who asked not to be named.

According to Agnes D. Gabuat of TESDA-Apayao, the special clients are the ones who are most deprived of training interventions due to health problems and many therapy schedules, but that the agency will ensure a strong partnership with FNLGHTC for continuous delivery of skills trainings.

Meanwhile, the hospital management expressed their gratitude to TESDA for bringing such program to their clients, as they signified their intention to facilitate another skills training with TESDA purposely for Surgery Ward patients.

After the training, all learners are expected to turn their skills into a profitable endeavor to gain extra income. To help the patients showcase their products in a bigger market, the hospital management will be working with some business establishments within the province for possible partnerships and bulk purchases.#
