According to Marlyn G. Necesito, Chief of Operations for TESDA-CAR, because the ASEAN integration opened up trade in goods and skilled services, Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) trainers need to comply with policies in the required industry based work experience or Industry Working Experience Required (IWER).
“With the opening of the ASEAN market, we have to compete with the best, not only in skills but in values and attitudes, so that we can transform the lives of the people and maximize their potential,” said Atty. Betty Lourdes F. Tabanda, Chairperson of the Regional Technical Education and Skills Development Committee (RTESDC).

Meanwhile, TESDA-CAR Regional Director Efren F. Piñol thanked the participating industry partners for their continuous commitment to technical education and skills development, adding that the objectives of the forum could not be achieved without the involvement of industry partners.
Necesito said that 12 companies made initial commitments during the forum to accept trainers for industry immersion in their companies, adding that there is a need to intensify the advocacy on industry immersion guidelines.
“TESDA will closely coordinate with industry partners and monitor the implementation of the immersion program, and create models that may be replicated in other industries,” said Necesito.
Participating industries included those in the sector of construction, automotive and land transportation, health and wellness, agriculture, and tourism. Representatives from private technical-vocational schools and TESDA training institutions were also in attendance. #
