TESDA-RTC eyes 1.9k enrollees in free TVET program this year

LOAKAN, BAGUIO CITY—The Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA) - Regional Training Center (RTC) is eyeing for a total of 1,900 enrollees this year to avail the free scholarship under the technical vocational education and training (TVET) programs.

“Currently there are 351 who availed of scholarship for skills under the tech-voc program, 419 whom finished their respective courses,” said Jaime Calatan, Technical Education and Skills Specialist II (TESDS II) of TESDA.

He said that there are three (3) available scholarships that TESDA is currently offering: the Training for Work Scholarship Programs (TWSP), Private Education Student Financial Assistance (PESFA), and Special Training for Employed Program (STEP).

TESDA-RTC offers the following National Certificate (NC) programs: Automotive Servicing (AS) NC I – 156 hours; Automotive Servicing (AS) NC II – 676 hours; Carpentry NC II- 162 hours; Carpentry NC III-364 hours; Computer Numeric Control(CNC) Lathe Machine Operation NC II-236 hours; CNC Milling Machine Operation NC II- 234 hours.

Construction painting NC II-178 hours; Electrical Installation and Maintenance(EIM) NC II- 196 hours; EIM NC III- 396 hours; English Language Proficiency-100 hours; Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) NC II- 268 hours; Gas Tungsten Arc Welding(GTAW) NC II- 268 hours; Machining NC II-337 hours.

Masonry NC II- 258 hours; Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) NC I- 268 hours; SMAW NC II- 268 hours; Technical Drafting NC II-246 hours; Tile Setting NC II- 82 hours.

“The RTC-Baguio will be offering a three year diploma on Mechanical Engineering Technology and Electrical Engineering Technology to qualified applicants in August 2018,” he said.

Admission Requirements

Calatan said that enrollees must be 18 years of age and at least a high school graduate to avail the scholarship.

“We are prioritizing students who are under graduate to avail our scholarship under the TVET program,” he said.

He said that applicants should bring two passport-size ID picture, photocopy of birth certificate, medical certificate, and under graduate credentials.

He said that the training schedule is from Mondays to Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
