TESDA set to TRAIN 47 job seekers referred on Labor Day

LOAKAN, BAGUIO CITY— The Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA) is set to provide skills training to 47 job seekers referred by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), skills training and assessment to 31 clients directly served by TESDA-CAR during the conduct of Labor Day Job’s Fair last May 1.

“Rest assured that we will be providing the necessary skills trainings that these job seekers wish to avail from our agency,” said Engineer Manuel B. Wong, acting regional director of TESDA-CAR on Wednesday.

He said that attending to the needs of the clients is in line with the President Rodrigo Duterte’s effort to aid the marginalized communities with skills development that would uplift their conditions.

He reiterated that TESDA supports the objectives of other line agencies in providing quality services to the public.

“Although the mandate of TESDA focuses on trainings, we are also eyeing for a suitable employment for our graduates,” he said.

Adding, “Our thrust now is training for livelihood and employment after. It is a must that trained IP scholars and graduates will be employed,” he said.

The annual labor-day job fair in Baguio started a pivotal shift from simply offering jobs into becoming a T-N-K or “Trabaho” (job), “Negosyo” (business) and “Kabuhayan” (livelihood) thus providing an option to job seekers.

Based on the report of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) there were 18,256 slots available for job seekers.

A total number of 2,401 applicants registered while 3,078 were interviewed.

“As you can see, there were 3,078 applicants interviewed despite of 2,401 registered. There were 677 interviewees who have applied multiple times,” said Patrick Rillorta, Information Officer of DOLE-CAR.

He disclosed that there were 2,325 total job applicants who qualified, 1,856 for local and 469 for overseas.

He also said that 349 applicants were hired on the spot (HOTS), while 1,839 were nearly hired.

“There were also 160 referred by DOLE to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Business Opportunity,” he said.

Meanwhile, a pre-registration was held on April 11 and 12 at the Regional Training Center (RTC) – Baguio and Baguio City School of Arts and Trades (BCSAT) respectively, to allow interested job seekers to cut short their queuing time on the day itself.
