1.4k Abrenians received free community based training from TESDA

PIDIGAN, Abra—A total of 1, 416 Abrenians have received community based training under the scholarship program of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) provincial office that can lead to long and sustainable livelihood program for the members of the community.

“The trainings that we have provided will help the Indigenous Peoples (IPs) especially those who cannot access, or are not accessible by formal training provisions,” said Julie Ann Banganan, TESDA-Abra provincial director.

The trainings provided in the whole province of Abra were: Bread and Pastry Production; Food and Beverage Services; Cookery; Carpentry; Dressmaking; Basic Concepts of Bookkeeping; Body Wellness Massage; Crop Production; Organic Agriculture Production; Nail care; Haircutting and Body Massage.

She said bringing the government’s services closer to the public will improve the delivery and efficiency of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) programs and technology-based community training programs.

“We are targeting a total of 3,500 individuals to receive community based training this year. As of April of 2019 we have already served 1,416 clients here in Abra,” she said.

In 2018, there were 3,897 individuals who have undergone community-based training. “We are serving all sectors, be it unemployed, employed, out of school youth, professionals and so on,” Banganan stressed.

She said that they have a lot of trainings being provided to the community which is in-line to the directive of President Rodrigo Duterte to improve the lives of the poor.
