TESDA CAR hosts 5th batch of capability building program for reg’l expert panel members

LOAKAN, Baguio City—Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) – Cordillera hosted a three-day capability building training for current Regional Expert Panel Members (REPM) re-calibrate and further enhance capability of current REPMs for renewal of appointment, and review and enhance the Trainers Methodology (TM) Level I assessment, particularly, with the integration of the 21st century skills.

The training aims to re-calibrate and further enhance capability of current REPMs for renewal of appointment, and review and enhance the TM Level I assessment, particularly, with the integration of the 21st century skill.

The program will lead to the expansion of the capacity of assessment and certification infrastructure as this will result to increase the number of competency assessors, assessment centers, and trainers.

There were a total of 39 participants coming from regions one to eight except region five, and National Capital Region.

Of the 39 current REPMs: six from TESDA Technology Institutions (TTIs), seven from Commission on Higher Education (CHED), and Higher Education Information, and 26 from private and public Technical Vocational Institutions.

This is the 5th of six batches which the TESDA will implement for the year, to increase the pool of REPMs.

Assessment and Certification is one core function of TESDA. Under the Philippine TVET Competency Assessment and Certification system (PTCACS), TESDA certifies trainers and industry practitioners/experts who meet the standard requirements of TM Level 1.

Those who pass the assessment and awarded a trainers methodology certificate, one of the requirements if a trainer wishes to apply for National TVET Training Certificate (NTTC).

The purposive information dissemination on the assessment and certification and the promulgation of Training Regulations (TRs) for new and amended qualifications are aimed at approximating internationally accepted and recognized standards.

The capability programs have resulted to increased awareness and greater appreciation of the assessment and certification as a relevant and useful tool for hiring, or training and development.

Among the topics discussed were 21st century skills for TVET trainers assessors, use of assessment scoring rubrics, calibration of rating.

Meanwhile. Technical Education and Skills Specialist II Lach Pacio who facilitated the levelling of the participants' expectations said that the current REPMs are expected to be empowered thru new learnings from the National Experts and thru shared experiences/knowledge from co-participants.
