TESDA, DSWD train 4Ps beneficiaries on delicacy making

CONNER, Apayao—A total of seven Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries here recently completed training on cassava making implemented by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and sponsored by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Both agencies agreed to run the training for five days on the following preparation of recipes: Cassava Cake, Cassava Suman, Palitaw, Kalasukus/Nilupak, Kutsinta, Dila-dila, Special Bibingka, Regular or Plain Bibingka, Pawa, Bico, Diket Binungon, Binalay/Inanzila and Puto Cheese.

TESDA recognizes the need to further improve the living condition of the eight members of the 4Ps and to respond the needs of the community regarding productivity thru skills training that will lead to livelihood and employment opportunities.

TESDA provided the technical assistance including cooking packaging/labeling and food costing while DSWD provided the seed capital for the graduates to start the business operation.

The collaborative work of both agencies helps the vulnerable members to have access to skills training and acquire necessary assets to engage in a sustainable livelihood endeavor that will eventually improve the quality of their lives.

“Filipinos are fond of eating different kinds of food especially native delicacies. Our native delicacies are what make our culture unique. We serve our native delicacies almost in every occasion,” said Sheryl Alog, TESDA trainer.

She said that producing native delicacies will enhance the earning capacity of the beneficiaries.

On June 24, 2019, the Municipal Government of Conner will celebrate its 56th Founding Anniversary which includes a highlight of local products.

On the said event, the 4Ps beneficiaries will be able to market the products they learned to prepare during the training.

Meanwhile, the trainees expressed their gratitude to TESDA and DSWD for bringing closer the government program closer to them.

They have also requested a 10-day training on bread and pastry production to be scheduled as soon as possible. (Hazel Joy Torida-TESDA Apayao).
