TESDA eyes more graduates under ‘Build Build Build’ program

LUNA, Apayao-- The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) here is eyeing to produce more graduates under metals and engineering sector to fill in the demand of skilled welders to work on the “Build Build Build” program under the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte.

“The government is seeking to construct big-ticket infrastructure projects, including airports, railways, bus rapid transits, roads and bridges, and seaports in various parts of the country, this is the high time for TESDA to train more scholars under the construction sector, said Engr. Victor P. Brioso ,TESDA Apayao Provincial Director.

He explained that being trained under TESDA is vital to generate workforce especially in the Cordillera region.

“Our thrust is to encourage individuals to avail of the skills training under the construction sector to produce more graduates,” he said.

He disclosed that in the past years there were only minimal enrolees under TESDA’s construction courses.

“Currently there are 35 beneficiaries under basic welding and steel fabrication in Kabugao, and Sta. Marcela, Apayao,” he disclosed.

Brioso assured that there will be a continuing intervention coming from TESDA, and that all sectors will be given free skills training.

Meanwhile, TESDA-Apayao supervising TESDS Fidelia Galvezo urged the graduates to utilize the skills they have learned from the institution.

“There are so many job opportunities in the welding industry that can be applied in the different sectors, including construction, agriculture, mining and automotive,” she said.

She noted that TESDA provides the necessary skills training required for employment.

“We encourage communities and other sectors through the government’s education and training programs,” she said.

She noted that TESDA is known for its holistic approach in teaching, of which part of trainees’ learning is to instill the importance of attitude and discipline to have a successful career.

In a speech delivered by Sta. Marcela mayor Evelyn Martinez, she encouraged the trainees to establish a steering committee to lead their cooperative and be able to request for another financial assistance to the municipal local government unit and other National Line Agencies to realize their goals and objectives.

To further assist the graduates they were handed a cash donation to use for the purchase for two portable welding machine and protective gears.

“This is just the beginning of your journey and I hope this will yield a positive result that will improve your financial status and somehow will help the country meet the demand for skilled workers like you” she said. (Hazel Torida-TESDA-APAYAO)
