TESDA-Apayao, DepEd and Local LGUs to train 74 IPs using mobile training lab training

Luna,Apayao- The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority Apayao is set to bring its free skills training to Barangay Butao and Namaltugan of Calanasan through the Mobile Training Laboratory (MTL) to equip the Indigenous People(IP) communities with employable skills as a way of reducing poverty.

“MTL is a product of collective effort between Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) that specifically intends to extend free and quality training services to the people that will facilitate wage/self-employment of the graduates said Engr. Victor P. Brioso, TESDA Apayao Provincial Director.

He explained that the delivery mode is designed to implement training programs in far flung communities of the province through portable boxes containing training tools and equipment and other learning materials.

“Through this program we can assure that the IPs count among the disadvantaged sectors of the society can equally have access to skills training so they can stand on their own feet and be able to engage in livelihood activities” he added.

“By reaching and serving our programs and services to the doorstep of our constituents we are actually changing and improving their quality of life,” Brioso said.

A training in Small Engine Repair is set to start on September 30 to October 11, 2019 in Calanasan. Learners will be taught how to perform periodic maintenance services in fuel, lubrication, ignition and cooling system as well as overhaul motorcycle/small engine.

Since most residents of Calanasan own a motorcycle, portable generator, farm implements and similar equipment, the IP community may find an opportunity for self-employment.

Out of 74 IP participants, around 36 of them are also learners of DepEd-ALS Calanasan who are willing to undergo training for 12 days.

PD Brioso extended his appreciation to Mobile Teachers of ALS Calanasan who initiated the coordination and recruitment of trainees eager to develop their skills for better employment and to Barangay Government of Butao and Namaltugan which will provide the venue and accommodation of trainers.

The cooperating agencies will jointly monitor, document and evaluate the implementation of the project for the realization of the training. (Hazel Torida-TESDA Apayao)
