TESDA celebrates DTS week, consults industry partners

LOAKAN-- In celebration of the Dual Training System (DTS) Week, the Regional Training Center – Baguio conducted an industry forum to sustain a continuous acceptance of DTS as the preferred mode of training delivery of TVET stakeholders.

“We need to transform our trainees to the kind of workforce that the industry needs,” said Belmar Angoling, RTC-Baguio OIC-administrator on October 18, 2019.

Adding, “With the help of industry partners and other stakeholders, it would be easier to produce better graduates that the industry demands through DTS implementation,” he said.

DTS refers to an instructional delivery system of technical and vocational education and training that combines in-plant training and in-school training based on a training plan.

The training scheme will lasts for more than six months to fully equip the trainees.

The DTS Week which is held every October 21- 28, is an annual celebration led by TESDA which honors the contributions of public and private technical vocational institutions (TVIs) and their industry partners in the implementation of DTS as an effective way to develop the country's workforce.

The forum aimed to encourage industries and discuss initiatives on how to expand the participation of stakeholders in the implementation of DTS in the county.

It will also strengthen the cooperation of stakeholders in the implementation of the DTS as the training delivery mode in molding future Filipino workers, and to further promote widespread DTS implementation.

The participants came from Baguio Center Mall, Moog Controls Corporation, GR Tuning Auto Shop, Philex Mining Corporation, KIA Mahindra, Porta Vaga Mall, Executive Excellence Institute, TI Philippines Inc., Hedcor, Inc., Philippine Military Academy, and Valley Bread.

World class technical workforce

CAPTION: TESD Specialist II Noriel Ramos noted that to bridge the gap and cope with the rapid technological change, TESDA will implement DTS and SIL with its partners.

TESD Specialist II Noriel Ramos said that to bridge the gap between TVET graduates and industry requirements, and fro graduates to cope with the rapid technological change, TESDA will implement the DTS together with the industry partners.

“This close cooperation between the school and the company ensures that the trainees are fully equipped with employable skills, work knowledge, and attitudes at the end of the training,” he said.

He also said that the longer the immersion of TVET scholars, the better.

Mr. Ramos explained that there will be at least 75% of the prevailing minimum wage shall be given in full to the trainee through the TVI as his/her allowance to be released every 15th day of the month.

He also discussed the Supervised Industry Learning (SIL) which is designed to complement the training gained in the institution with the intention of enhancing the knowledge and skill of the learner through actual application of critical competencies in the workplace as identified in the training regulation.

He said that SIL will enhance the competency of learners thru actual experience and establish roles and responsibilities of engaged parties and promote it as a method of complementing institution-based training. (PMTG/TESDA-CAR)
