TESDA train PDLs in Basic Haircutting

WANGAl, La Trinidad— At least 20 persons deprived of liberty (PDL) were trained by Technical Education and Skills Development Authority here in Basic haircutting in line with President Rodrigo Duterte's directive to ensure their employability once they get out from the jail facility.

Of the 20 PDLs, 11 were males and nine were females who were trained under the said training from February 24, 2020 to February 28, 2020.

TESDA Baguio-Benguet Provincial Director Vilma Cabrera said that the implementation of the skills training is in accordance with a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with TESDA Benguet and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) that aims to enhance, improve and provide skills training for PDL’s.

“The skills training that we provide to the PDLs will give them an identity, based on their skills, and not their past as eventual ex-detainees when they go out of the facility,” PD Cabrera explained.

She said that there are also various scholarship programs of TESDA that the PDLs can avail of such as Training for Work Scholarship Program (TWSP), Special Training for Employment Program (STEP), Special Support Training Program (SSTP).

PD Cabrera said TESDA is determined to serve more clients and transform each lives through its programs and services.

“Rest assured that TESDA will continue to provide skills training for all,” she said
